Schools and Youth Groups

Launch a school or youth rocketry club and put your students on a clear trajectory—hands-on STEM, real engineering skills, and a pathway through regional, national, and international youth competitions to future careers in aerospace engineering and beyond.

Rocketry can be used as a ‘Skill’ for DofE, and where students set up a rocket club or mentor other students, it can also be used for ‘Volunteering’.

Rocket School is here to help you lift off. Join free for more support and inspiration.

Scouts

Rocketry makes for great sessions for Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. Following the ‘Trajectory’ Scouts can earn additional Rocket School badges with a real STEM focus.

Set kids on the right 'Trajectory'

Set young people on the right trajectory with rocket drawing and junk-modelling builds to high-ability teams designing, flying, and competing with powered rockets—giving your school or youth group a clear pathway that keeps skills growing right through every stage.

Where to start?

Where to start on the ‘Trajectory’ is flexible. Even older students can choose to start at the beginning if they have no prior experience of rocketry. Below are some suggested starting points. Find a starting point for your students and give it a go!

Mini Rocketeers

Ideal for EYFS and KS1, and younger youth groups. Can include drawing and painting rockets, junk modelling, stomp rockets and water rockets.

Rocket Boosters

Ideal for Key Stages 1-3, and youth groups. Can include flying rockets on different power motors and recovery systems, as well as the use of electronics such as cameras and altimeters.

Youth Rocketeers

Ideal for key Stages 3-5 and older youth groups. Includes designing, building, and launching your rockets on higher power, as well as competing and mentoring others in rocketry.

UKRoC - Youth Rocketry Competition

The UK Youth Rocketry Challenge (UKROC) is a great way to engage the next generation of engineers with practical experience of building and executing complex missions.

This is an exciting way to learn more about maths and science, with the UK winners getting the chance to compete against teams from France, USA and Japan at the International Finals.

Compete as a school or youth group!

Where to buy rocket kits, parts & motors

There are a few specialist rocket vendors in the UK shown here. If you have young groups, you can start with simple Stomp Rockets or use recycled materials to build simple models.

For rocket kits, scratch builds, electronics, and motors, you will find a wealth of experience and most things you’ll need from these vendors.

Tip: Look for bulk packs of rocket kits, which often work out cheaper for schools and groups.
